Sanctity is important for LGBTI campaigners, as it lies at the heart of the stigma that has been built against sexual and gender minorities. A lot of our opponents’ strategy is to generate and maintain a feeling of dislike or disgust, while reinforcing the expressions of sanctity that are inherent to the group (religious values of course, but also other “sacred” items such as the protection of the child)
